Segunda División outfit Espanyol have this afternoon moved to send a public message of support to a former member of the club’s attacking ranks.

The player in question? Dani Osvaldo.

As much comes after Osvaldo took to his social media platforms on Thursday, to unveil a deeply concerning update on his wellbeing.

Speaking in a three-minute video clip on his Instagram account, the one-time Italian international opened up on his current mental state, a post which he himself is undecided on being either “a request for help” or simply something he “needed to talk about.”

“I have been dealing with a very big depression for a long time,” he begins. “That depression made me fall into some addictions, alcohol and drugs. And the truth is that I am in a moment in which my life is getting out of hand.”

“I am undergoing psychiatric treatment,” Osvaldo continues. “Taking medication, with a very specific illness, lack of self-esteem, depression…”

“in the past I was an elite soccer player, a totally different person, full of security and confidence. And today I am a person I do not recognize. And I’m having a hard time getting out of this. I want to say this because if there are any of you out there who have gone through the same thing or have had family members who have gone through it or are going through it, please feel free to talk to my family. I talked to part of my family, another part will find out after watching this video.”

The now-38-year-old concludes by again calling for any individual going through ‘something similar’ to reach out.

And, as alluded to above, swiftly following on the back of Osvaldo’s post has come a heartfelt message of support on the part of one of his former employers.

In a social media post of their own, Espanyol, with whom the frontman enjoyed a productive 18 months between 2010 and 2011, assured that they are fully ‘with’ Osvaldo, providing their ‘encouragement and strength in these difficult times’:

‘The #RCDE wants to send all the support to its former player Pablo Daniel Osvaldo, who has publicly acknowledged suffering from depression that has led him to fall into addictions. We’re with you, Dani! Encouragement and strength in these difficult times!’

We at Get Spanish Football News would also like to send our best wishes to Osvaldo during this trying time.
