Ernesto Valverde pens new deal with Athletic Club | OneFootball

Athletic Club head coach Ernesto Valverde has on Friday committed his immediate future to the club.

The subject of Valverde’s plans beyond the summer has of course long positioned itself front and centre in the media chatter surrounding Athletic.

As much comes with the former Barcelona boss’ current terms due to come to a close in the summer.

Fresh off a historic triumph in the Copa del Rey, the Athletic brass and fanbase alike, in turn, had long been eager for Valverde to pen pen to paper on fresh terms.

And, as alluded to above, on Friday, precisely that has been confirmed.

Though perhaps not the kind of long-term deal which the parties had been hopeful of agreeing upon, Los Leones and their beloved tactician have agreed to extend their relationship through the summer of 2025.

As per an official statement across Athletic’s website and social media platforms:

‘Athletic Club legend Ernesto Valverde will stay on as head coach next season. Recent Copa champion and Athletic’s number one manager for games in charge, Ernesto has signed a one-year contract extension.’
