Erling Haaland is a prime physical specimen.
Just as Premier League defenders feared, the Manchester City star has taken to English football like a duck to water with his indomitable strength and electric space making the transition as seamless as possible.
The cliché always goes that you need to be physically elite to thrive in the Premier League and the example of Haaland certainly suggests that’s the case with his formidable athleticism playing a massive role in his astonishing early success.
However, Haaland hasn't been able to achieve this level of physical excellence without putting in the hard yards because it's the clear that City star has undergone quite the body transformation.
From the early days of his breakthrough at Red Bull Salzburg to sealing his move to the Etihad Stadium, Haaland underwent a major change in his physical frame from a slight youngster to muscly young adult.
And while, of course, part of that process is merely body maturation and general growth, the difference over the past few years has been so explicit that it's clear Haaland made a conscious effort to bulk up.
In fact, the man himself reportedly confirmed as such by revealing that he had undergone a weight increase, showing that all the comparison photographs aren't merely a trick of the light.
Per a translation from talkSPORT, Spanish publication AS quoted the City striker as saying in May 2021: “If you look at my body, if you look at my legs, you will see that I have changed a lot.
“I have become a real man. I have become faster. That is one of the most important things. I have gone from 86 kilos to 94, but it is not a beer belly, it is about gross muscle mass. I take great care of what I eat.”
Take care of what you eat, huh, Erling? Well, it's interesting that he said that because this week has seen more evidence added to the pot that Haaland has knowingly been gearing his routine towards optimising his body.
That's because, as reported by The Sun, the 22-year-old revealed fascinating insight on his diet and daily routine as part of the "Haaland: The Big Decision," documentary.
While remarkably showing off chunks of heart and liver provided by his butcher, Haaland says: “You (other people) don’t eat this, but I am concerned with taking care of my body.
“I think eating quality food that is as local as possible is the most important. People say meat is bad for you but which? The meat you get at McDonald’s?
“Or the local cow eating grass right over there? I eat the heart and the liver.”
The Sun explains that heart and liver are superfoods that are rich in vitamin B, iron, phosphorus, copper and magnesium.
Haaland also added when describing his daily routine: “The first thing I do in the morning is to get some sunlight in my eyes — it is good for circadian rhythm.
“I have also started to filtrate my water a bit. I think it can have great benefits for my body.”
His father, Alfie, who also cooks a lasagna for Haaland before games went onto reveal that his son's diet had partly been informed by the stellar example set by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Haaland is also said to be a fan of ice baths and glasses which filter out blue light in order to improve his sleep.
So while it's important to stress that body transformations like Haaland's are never a guarantee of healthiness and strength, it's fair to say that it's most certainly the case as far as his is concerned.
Athletic bodies come in all different shapes and sizes, but it just so happens that the rippling frame Haaland has crafted through a diet overseen by experts and a fitness routine prescribed by some of the best coaches in the business suits him down to the ground.
Twenty goals already this season says so.
