Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne teamed up to set two closely-related Premier League records when Manchester City faced Luton on Tuesday night.
Haaland scored five goals, with De Bruyne surprisingly assisting him four times. It was the first time anything like that had happened in the Premier League – two players combining to produce eight goal contributions (four goals and four assists) – in a match.
That performance also saw them create a joint record: the first time a player will assist the same player four times in a match.
Despite being out for nearly two months, Haaland currently leads the Premier League goalscorers chart with 17 goals. De Bruyne has provided 11 assists in all competitions despite only making his first appearance this season in January.
Haaland and De Bruyne’s continued bromance on the pitch would be the key to Manchester City winning a fourth consecutive title this season.
