Manchester City’s decision to sign Erling Braut Haaland from Borussia Dortmund last summer has already paid massive dividends for the club.

The prolific Norwegian striker has set numerous records to help Pep Guardiola’s side win the Premier League and FA Cup.

He could end his debut season as a treble-winner if Man City can overcome Inter Milan in the Champions League final on Saturday.

His phenomenal penchant for hitting the back of the net saw Haaland end the campaign with 36 goals – making him the Premier League top scorer in a single season.

Andrew Cole (1993/94) and Alan Shearer (1994/95) were the previous record holders, although their 34-goal tallies came during 42-game seasons.

Cole and Shearer each had 47 goal involvements during their respective seasons, which is still a Premier League record.

However, Haaland’s assist against Brighton & Hove Albion in May was his 44th league goal involvement – a joint record in a 38-game Premier League season alongside Thierry Henry (2002/03).

He also became the third player to score 30+ goals in their debut Premier League campaign, after Cole (34 in 1993/94) and Kevin Phillips (30 in 1999/00).

His hat-tricks against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United made him the first player in Premier League history to score three goals in three consecutive home appearances.

Haaland scored four hat-tricks at the Etihad Stadium, the joint-most at home by a player in a single season in Premier League history alongside Shearer (1995/96).

He scored six hat-tricks across all competitions – the most ever by a Premier League player in a single season.

Haaland leads the Champions League top scorers chart with 12 goals but must bag five against Inter to equal Cristiano Ronaldo’s record tally of 17 for Real Madrid (2013/14).

He is also joint-top of the Nations League top scorers standings for 2022/23 on six goals alongside Fulham and Serbia striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Haaland’s record-breaking season adds to a hugely impressive list of personal achievements racked up during his career to date.

These include twice winning the Striker of the Year award with Dortmund (2020/21 & 2021/22) and the top goalscorer in the Champions League (10 in 2021/21).

He has also won several Player of the Year Awards during his short career, including this season with Man City.

Winning the Champions League this weekend would be the perfect end to the season for a player who is a good bet to keep breaking records for years to come.
