Unable to have the chance to finish the job last season due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, Erik ten Hag and Ajax were able to complete another domestic double after defeating FC Emmen 4-0 over the weekend.
The title was Ajax’s 35th Eredivisie championship win and ten Hag believes that this year’s win felt much better than the one from two seasons ago, when they nearly made the Champions League final.
“I don’t know if this championship has the same eternal value as two years ago, but this title is better,” he told De Telegraaf.
“This season there was a lot of willpower and resilience in the team. I already thought we were good at that, but we have improved even further.
“There’s a great bond between the players, homogeneity. The players are resilient, have a lot to do for each other and challenge each other.
“Although there was no audience, there was always a good drive, a good emotion in the team.”
On whether or not Ajax would rest his players for the final three games of the season, ten Hag failed to answer the question directly.
“There are a number of interests. First of all, we have a sporting duty to fulfil,” he continued.
“This trainer demands top football, does not play friendly football, and plays to win. That’s what we want to do for the next three games.”
Ajax will finish the campaign against Feyenoord, VVV-Venlo, and Vitesse.
