Erik ten Hag was spotted taking pictures with fans outside Old Trafford ahead of his first press conference as Manchester United manager.

The Dutchman officially took over as the club's new head coach on Monday following the end of their dismal 2021/22 season a day before, signing off with a 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace.

Ten Hag was a surprise spectator in south London having arrived for the game with less than an hour to go before kick-off and was visibly unimpressed with the display Man Utd put in.

The 52-year-old was then escorted out of Selhurst Park and will face the media for the first time as United boss later on Monday.

Prior to this press conference, Ten Hag - wearing a similarly bold beige suit that he wore to the Palace match - took time to take some pictures with some of his new supporters.

In his first interview with Man Utd's channels, Ten Hag stressed the importance of making the fans proud.

"First of all, we want to make the fans proud. Second, of course we are in this moment [where] the current situation is obviously not that good. It's a big challenge. I want to build and construct a team that is battling for each other, who are unified and will get results," he said.

"Also, we are playing in the 'Theatre of Dreams', we want to entertain. But in the end, the intention is to play fantastic football. If we can't play fantastic football, we still have to win."
