Erik ten Hag is adamant that Steven Berghuis will travel with Ajax for their clash with his former club Feyenoord later this month.
De Klassieker is always a spicy affair, and there will be even more animosity in the air this time in the wake of the attacker’s controversial move between the clubs last summer.
It is not known if fans will be allowed attend the game at De Kuip on 19 December yet, as Eredivisie fixtures are currently taking place behind closed doors due to COVID-19 restrictions.
But Ajax manager ten Hag insists that the death threats Berghuis received after his move will not deter the 29-year-old from returning to his old stomping ground.
“It’s not something I have to think about. Of course I’ll take Steven with me,” ten Hag said, per De Telegraaf.
“Anxious? Come on! If safety can’t be guaranteed, we shouldn’t go at all.
“As a group, we must arm ourselves against possible hostility. We do that too, because there are strategies for that.”
Feyenoord can move to within a point of the league-leading Amsterdam giants with a win over Fortuna Sittard on Sunday.
