Erik ten Hag slams reports of Bruno Fernandes exit from Man Utd | OneFootball

Erik ten Hag "definitely" expects Bruno Fernandes to remain at Manchester United this summer, insisting the Portugal international's recent comments about his future had been taken out of context.

Shortly after reports emerged suggesting United would be prepared to listen to offers for nearly their entire squad - Fernandes included - the club captain admitted he could consider his future at Old Trafford this summer if he no longer believes he is wanted by those in charge.

Ten Hag, however, has no concerns over Fernandes' words and believes the words used by United's captain have been misinterpreted.

Asked whether he wants to keep Fernandes, Ten Hag responded: "Absolutely but that was also taken out of context. I haven’t even asked [Fernandes about the context] because I know he is Manchester United and I think he is very happy to be here."

Ten Hag was then pressed on whether he believes Fernandes will stay, to which he simply replied: "Definitely."

Aside from his obvious talents on the pitch - Fernandes leads United in both goals and assists this season - Ten Hag admitted the midfielder is a crucial figure in the dressing room as well.

"Absolutely important [to have him available]," Ten Hag explained. "Taking responsibility is one of the biggest assets nowadays top footballers have to show and to deliver. Bruno always delivers.

"He is always available, he never misses a game and always plays in a good level and always giving energy to a team and such assets are necessary to be successful.

"It is also a very subjective criteria [to be fit]. One is sure: Bruno is a real fighter. Last year for instance, when we played Brighton in the semi-final, he played with an ankle that was so thick, unbelievable. He couldn't run but he was still on the pitch.

"What is fair enough is that Bruno is a very good example for many other players."
