Mason Mount scored his first goal for Manchester United in their last game against Brentford, and it’s a goal he’s will have been dreaming of since leaving Chelsea last summer. United paid £55million for Mount in the summer window, but injuries have meant his career at Old Trafford has stagnated. The 26-year-old is back fit now, and eager to make a mark in the games that remain this season.

There was a lot of interest in Mount during the summer that United had to contend with. As revealed yesterday in reports, Jurgen Klopp had many conversations with the midfielder, who was his priority target going into the window. Arsenal also thought they had a deal wrapped up, but in the end, United were the chosen destination.

Chelsea Wanted To Keep Mount:

Erik ten Hag revealed in his press conference last night that it was Chelsea who wanted to keep Mount at the club, making several contract offers to try and get him to stay. The United number seven wanted to take that step to the next level, according to the United manager, and he has been tipped to become a massive player for the club in the future.

“Chelsea wanted to keep him and they even offered him a new contract many times….But he wanted to come here and join United”. Erik ten Hag on Mason Mount

Mount will return to Stamford Bridge tonight to face his former side, and it will be interesting to see whether Ten Hag goes with Casemiro in midfield or the former Chelsea midfielder. A midfield of Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes, and Mount has yet to be trialled and could be the type of energy the side needs in the middle of the park at the moment.
