Manchester United hit a new low after Liverpool thrashed them 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

A Luis Diaz brace and another Mohamed Salah goal helped Arne Slot get the better of his counterpart.

Speaking to beINSPORTS_EN after the clash, Erik ten Hag said: “I think our start was okay, despite their one big chance that was a disallowed goal.

“We were wrong in our organisation, but then we came into the game – we improved, and then we made a big mistake.

“I have to say, they were so clinical, great finishes. I think all three goals are great finishes from Liverpool.

“They [Liverpool] took their chances and were very clinical, so they deserved it [the win].”

Erik ten Hag is running out of excuses

The Dutchman is in his third year at Old Trafford. He has had backing in each of his three summer windows with the club spending heavily.

The starting XI against Liverpool consisted of six players who were signed under him.

Two players – Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo – broke into the senior team under his guidance.

The other three players – Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot and Marcus Rashford – earned new contracts during his regime.

Ten Hag cannot run away from the fact that this is his team. He has to take ownership of results, especially when United lose to their arch-rivals on their home turf.

Casemiro made awful mistakes, which proved to be costly. He and his partner Mainoo left too much space in the centre.

However, United made a lot of structural errors during transitions, for which Ten Hag must take responsibility.

Liverpool often had a 4v2 situation in their favour when they won the ball in United’s half.

Noussair Mazraoui and Dalot were caught out of position several times as they were positioned too high to support the attack.

With the pace and quality Liverpool’s attack possessed, United required their full-backs to be more vigilant and disciplined defensively.

Ten Hag failed to interpret what was happening and lost the tactical battle to Arne Slot.
