Erik ten Hag says he is planning for the future at Manchester United amid uncertainty around his position.

United take on rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday having endured a disappointing season to date which saw them finish eighth in the Premier League.

Defeat in the FA Cup, therefore, means United would miss out on European football completely next season.

But despite his side’s disappointing campaign heaping pressure on the Dutchman, United boss ten Hag insists he is thinking about the future of the team, including the summer transfer window.

“I have nothing to say. Just focusing on first winning the game on Saturday and then the project, keep going with the project,” he said when asked about his future.

And quizzed about transfer window plans, he said: “Of course I’m thinking about it, but my focus is until Saturday”.

Meanwhile, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford was left out of the England squad for the Euros following a season in which he has managed just seven Premier League goals, ten less than the previous campaign.

But ten Hag has urged the forward to use his England omission as motivation to get back to his best.

“That is the career, ups and downs,” he said.

“A down can also be fuel, that is what I see in training. He will be highly motivated, he is highly talented. He has already a big career. I am sure he will get over this and get even more goals.”
