Manchester United have spoken to Alejandro Garnacho regarding his controversial social media activity over the weekend, as confirmed by Manchester Evening News.

After the Reds’ 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, which saw Garnacho substituted after just 45 minutes, Erik ten Hag explained his decision to swap the 19-year-old for Amad Diallo.

“I think we had to repair over the right side. We didn’t play well. The spaces were there. In possession, we had to bring a sub there. Garnacho was during the week not training. Only yesterday. We thought bring some energy and bring some more quality, quality in the sense of cooperation and togetherness on that right-hand side.”

It was, however, a decision that evidently didn’t sit well with Garnacho. Later on Saturday evening, fans were quick to point out that he’d liked two tweets from a YouTuber criticising the manager.

While the player didn’t write the posts himself, the situation is still reminiscent of the notorious Jadon Sancho saga at the beginning of the season, and we all know how that ended.

MEN reports: “A United spokesperson said the matter was dealt with internally but declined to clarify whether Garnacho has been outright disciplined. United highlighted that Garnacho had swiftly unliked the tweets.”

Ill-advised move from youngster

Ultimately, issues between players and staff should be kept within the club, otherwise, it just gives rival fans another stick to beat United with. The club has been run like a complete circus for far too long, and this just appears to be the latest case in a string of players turning on the manager.

In terms of Garnacho’s potential punishment or disciplinary, nothing of the sort has been revealed as of yet. A swift apology may have seen the matter wrapped up fairly quickly, but if not, it’ll be worth keeping tabs on the matchday squad this Sunday.
