Erik ten Hag future to be discussed in key Man Utd meeting

Erik ten Hag's future as Manchester United manager will be discussed by the club's top officials during a key meeting on Tuesday.

The Red Devils have made their worst start to a league season since 1989 and the Dutchman has been defiant when asked his continued role in charge of the team. The club is also said to be reluctant to sack the former Ajax boss due to the 'embarrassment' dismissing him just two months into the new campaign would cause.

The speculation over his future refuses to subside, however, and The Athletic say Ten Hag's job in the hot-seat at Old Trafford will be discussed, with co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Joel Glazer in attendance for a meeting on Tuesday.

The get-together in London is the latest in a series of monthly meetings and not solely about Ten Hag. It has long been in the diary, with INEOS representatives Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean Claude-Blanc joined by chief executive Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth, technical director Jason Wilcox, chief financial officer Roger Bell and chief operating officer Collette Roche.

The agenda will cover the latest developments at United and their plans for the future - including that of Old Trafford - but it is understood that the team's form is usually a talking point shaping wider conversation points and Ten Hag's position as manager is expected to be discussed as part of that.

A number of alternative managers have been linked with the job, with Thomas Tuchel one such target. Reports have revealed United contacted the former Bayern Munich and Chelsea boss last summer before the decision was made to extend Ten Hag's contract.

Ratcliffe had deferred responsibility when asked if the 13-time Premier League champions could dismiss the 54-year-old, claiming it is not his decision.

United sit 14th in the top flight after their goalless draw with Aston Villa on Sunday and have drawn their first two Europa League games in uninspiring fashion.
