Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag has poured cold water on speculation linking him to the vacant post at Manchester United.

Ten Hag’s side returned to Eredivisie action on Sunday with a convincing win over RKC Waalwijk.

A brace each from Sébastien Haller and Steven Berghuis, in addition to a goal from Jurriën Timber, saw the Amsterdam giants get back on the right track following two league draws prior to the international break.

Despite the result, the main question on everyone’s lips was about the possibility of ten Hag taking over at Old Trafford following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“I can’t do anything with it, I’m working on this team,” ten Hag told ESPN (via De Telegraaf).

“We have a very nice squad and want to achieve a lot this season. We want to compete for a very long time and not only compete, but also go for titles. That’s the thing with this team. That’s what I focus on.”

The 51-year-old also claimed that he would be a hypocrite if he were to jump ship mid-season.

“I expect my players to be at Ajax and then as a trainer I also have to set a good example,” he said.

“So, will I stay at Ajax at least until the end of the season? Yes, you can go on about it, but it’s a weird question.

“I don’t know anything, I haven’t heard anything, so I don’t have to worry about that at all. I only focus on Ajax and again, I expect the same from my players. So I have to do that myself.”

Victory at the Mandemakers Stadion kept Ajax on top of the table on goal difference from PSV.
