Anthony Martial has been dealt yet another blow in what looks like a neverending mountain of injuries as the Frenchman has been ruled out of this weekend’s game against Crystal Palace.

Martial enjoyed a goalscoring return to the side earlier this week as he struck gold against Nottingham Forest in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.

Prior to that brief second-half cameo, he had missed the previous five games due to injury. Now, he has sustained his fifth injury of the season.

Speaking ahead of the game, manager Erik ten Hag revealed that Martial has suffered a setback to the injury he returned from four days ago.

“He had a set back from the game when he returned. He dropped a little bit back. We have to wait, we have to be patient,” the Dutchman is quoted as saying by the official Manchester United website.

SN’s verdict… Martial’s neverending battle with injuries is, ultimately, going to be the end of him at Old Trafford and that’s very unfortunate. He is Ten Hag’s preferred choice to lead the line but his fitness troubles mean that we are still yet to see him in action for a prolonged period.

Quite spectacularly, it’s been two years since Martial completed back-to-back 90-minute games for the Reds and that kind of record is not something you would we willing to hang your hat on if you’re Ten Hag.
