Erik ten Hag explains how Man Utd will play under him
90min
Erik ten Hag has explained how he will set up his Manchester United side next season, emphasising that he will aim to maximise his players' strengths as opposed to imposing a system on them.
Ten Hag's Ajax side set up in a 4-3-3 formation with an emphasis on swift transitions and width. The system brought success in Amsterdam too, with the Dutchman lifting the Eredivisie in each of his full seasons at the club.
Speaking to the press for the first time as United manager, Ten Hag was keen to stress that he would consult with the club's players and staff before revealing too much, though he did hint at how he wanted his side to play next season.
"Maybe you have seen Ajax," he said. "I like that. But it always players dictating the way of playing.
"I have the idea and I will line up my best team to get the best of out them. To get their maximum and they feel comfortable in their role. In the end it is about getting the success together."
Ten Hag has a big task on his hands to turn the situation at Old Trafford around. United registered their lowest ever Premier League points tally this season and were only saved from dropping into the Europa Conference League by West Ham's failure to defeat Brighton on the final day.
Ten Hag will be joined in the dugout by Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren, with their arrivals being confirmed earlier today.
