Erik ten Hag delivered some positive injury news following Manchester United’s eventful 4-2 win over Sheffield United in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
The Reds fell behind twice against the Blades, having to equalise twice before winning the match comfortably after taking the lead for the first time in the final 10 minutes.
Club captain Bruno Fernandes was the star of the night, scoring two goals and registering one assist. He took the headlines after the win but there was another midfielder on the agenda during Ten Hag’s post-match press conference.
Ten Hag was quizzed on whether any defenders were due to return for Saturday’s clash with Burnley after Casemiro had to act as a makeshift centre-back for the second consecutive match. The manager said we have to be patient, even though Lisandro Martinez recently hinted that he is almost ready to return.
The manager added that Mount will return should he avoid any additional knocks in training between now and Saturday.
“No, not yet. We have to be patient for it,” Ten Hag told BBC’s Match of the Day, as quoted by ManUtd.com. “For coming back for the game against Burnley, I don’t expect [them]. Mason Mount, he will return, I think.”
This, of course, could give Ten Hag extra options in midfield. Christian Eriksen started against Sheffield United but failed to have any real impact on the match, despite having lots of the ball.
The last time Mount appeared for United was in the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth. It was only a short cameo and he has since been sidelined for the last two matches.
Mount still has a lot to prove in a United shirt. It’s no secret that he hasn’t had the best first season at the club…
