While Ajax manager Erik ten Hag is satisfied with a result against free-scoring Atalanta, he could not help but be disappointed after Ajax let their 2-0 lead slip, ultimately ending in a 2-2 draw.

After the Dutch giants went into the dressing room 2-0 up following a Dušan Tadić penalty and a Lassina Traoré effort, Duván Zapata hit back with a six-minute brace to salvage a point for the Italians.

In addition, young winger Antony was forced to be stretchered off late with a suspected knee injury following a sensational match from the 20-year-old, which included several dazzling pieces of skill that made their rounds on social media.

“It was a very intense match. Atalanta play well in one-on-one situations and started the second half strong, so we should’ve kept it simple,” the Ajax boss admitted in his post-match press conference.

“A draw against Atalanta is by no means a negative result, but as we were 2-0 up, we should’ve done more.

“We thought that we’d win this evening and should’ve been more reactive because you don’t win playing like that.

“It was a wide-open match and either side could’ve won it. I don’t know what happened for the equaliser, but Zapata had too much freedom.”

Ajax will look to get back into Group D next week when they head to Denmark to face Midtjylland.
