Erik ten Hag defends Eredivise after Ajax rout Cambuur | OneFootball

Erik ten Hag believes Cambuur were the victims of a complete Ajax performance on Saturday.

The hosts had eight different scorers at Johan Cryuff Arena, with only David Neres netting a brace.

While some will question the quality of the opposition, ten Hag preferred to focus on the comprehensive display his charges produced.

“We have now continued in the second half, we have sometimes left that in other games,” the Ajax manager told ESPN (via Voetbal International).

Cambuur conceded their first goal in the 16th minute, but ten Hag did not feel the subsequent collapse reflected badly on the Eredivisie.

“They certainly had the intention to make something of it, to play football. They did an excellent job,” he said.

“It’s not up to me (if Cambuur were naive). You can say that.

“I saw this afternoon that Bayern Munich won 7-0 against VfL Bochum, so this is not just in the Netherlands.”

The win saw Ajax move a point ahead of PSV at the top of the table, though the Eindhoven outfit can return to the summit with a win over Feyenoord on Sunday.

A draw will not be enough due to Ajax’s incredible goal difference, which stands at plus 21 after just five games.
