Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag could suffer a significant salary deduction if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League. ESPN are reporting that the Dutchman could see a 25% deduction to his wages heading into the new season. Currently, United sit seventh in the table, 16 points off the Champions League places prior to their midweek game against Sheffield United.

Ten Hag is under a lot of pressure at United. The former Ajax manager saw his side scrape past Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final last weekend, beating the Sky Blues on penalties. Reports surrounding his future at the club have been circulating in the midst of a dismal season in which the Red Devils have suffered 12 defeats and five draws in the league.

England head coach Gareth Southgate, Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi and Brentford’s Thomas Frank have been linked with the United job, but for the meantime it seems like he’ll stay put at Old Trafford. A pay cut as big as 25% could be coming Erik ten Hag’s way if Manchester United fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.
