Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has confirmed that his side face something of a defensive crisis for the upcoming Community Shield clash with Manchester City.
The two sides face off on Sunday in a repeat of the FA Cup final from last season, from which the Red Devils emerged victorious in a win that likely kept the Dutchman in his job.
Now, they lock horns to kick off the new season, and United are set to be without a host of defenders.
Summer signing Leny Yoro is already confirmed to be absent through an injury picked up in a pre-season defeat to Arsenal, while four more are touch and go.
“Victor Lindelöf, Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw are question marks for the Community Shield”, Ten Hag explained to the media.
Left-back Tyrell Malacia is also injured and not expected back until October.
The news leaves the Red Devils potentially down to just Jonny Evans and Lisandro Martinez as recognised senior centre-backs, with Diogo Dalot as their only option at right-back and no left-back.
