It was believed that Eric Dier was one of the main contenders to wear England’s captain band at the World Cup, but instead it was given to his Tottenham team-mate, Harry Kane.
The Three Lions’ boss, Gareth Southgate, decided Spurs striker deserved the team’s captaincy over Dier.
During an interview with BBC Radio, Dier agreed with Southgate’s decision and clarified that he wasn’t upset about it.
“No (I’m not disappointed), not really,” Dier told the BBC’s show Five Live.
“I wasn’t disappointed. I’m very happy for Harry to be given the opportunity.
“I think it’s fully deserved.”
The versatile defender/midfielder who has been a mainstay for Mauricio Pochettino’s side since his arrival in 2014, is still expected to be one of England’s leaders in the pitch despite not officially being the Three Lions captain.
