Ivorian defender Eric Bailly finds himself at a career crossroads after ending his 18-month stint with Villarreal. Currently a free agent, the 31-year-old center-back saw potential interest from Iranian club Persepolis FC collapse due to financial disagreements.

French publication L'Equipe now reports Bailly is likely to continue his career in Spain's top flight. The former Manchester United man appears close to signing with newly-promoted Real Oviedo, marking a fresh chapter in his experienced career.

Bailly's next move comes after his second spell at Villarreal, where he made 23 appearances before becoming a free agent this summer. The defender brings extensive La Liga experience, having previously played for Espanyol before his 2016 move to England.

It is worth noting that the player had received significant interest from Saudi clubs, most notably Al Najmah SC, but so far, there has been no progress in the deal from any party competing to sign the distinguished Ivorian player.
