Ajax were forced to split the points with Emmen on Saturday after letting a 3-1 lead slip away to draw 3-3.
Scorers: Veldmate 6′, Živković 58′, Bouchouari 85′; Taylor 8′, 21′, Bergwijn 25′
The woes continued for Ajax on Saturday as the league leaders let three points slip away against relegation-zone Emmen.
The hosts made it clear they were up for the challenge when Jeroen Veldmate opened the scoring, but an in-form Kenneth Taylor turned things around 2-1 for the visitors by the 20-minute mark.
Over time, Ajax would then assert their dominance as Steven Bergwijn extended their lead four minutes later and it looked like it would be a comfortable victory for the Eredivisie champions.
But Emmen came out with a renewed belief in the second half while Ajax’s defence imploded.
Richario Živković made things a one-goal game and the visitors eventually crumbled under the pressure in the dying moments which allowed Mohamed Bouchouari to tie things 3-3 in stunning fashion.
The result is a huge upset and has massive implications for the title race. Ajax sit third in the table tied with PSV and Feyenoord who both have a game in hand.
It’s the first time since February 2015 that the club has failed to win three league games in a row.
