Eredivisie preview | Feyenoord vs Ajax

Article image:Eredivisie preview | Feyenoord vs Ajax

The Eredivisie title race is hotting up with first and fourth set to meet at De Kuip as leaders Feyenoord face an Ajax side struggling to find a win this year. Arne Slot’s side sit two points ahead going into their match after PSV Eindhoven’s win against Vitesse and could recover their five-point lead with a win against Alfred Schreuder’s team.

They welcome an Ajax side who are yet to win in their last five matches – a run of form which is completely unheard of for the Netherlands most successful club. Despite this poor form, Schreuder still has the chance of retaining the league title but they first must return to winning ways and beating the current league leaders, leaving the title race wide open, would certainly be a step in the right direction.

Slot has no reason to make any changes to Feyenoord’s starting lineup ahead of their title-decider, bar any injury issues. Danilo will likely retain his spot down the middle despite Santiago Gimenez coming off the bench and scoring against Groningen while Gernot Truaner and Quinten Timber set to be the only players unavailable for the hosts.

Ajax will be forced into at least one alternation with Devyne Rensch serving a suspension after he was sent off against Twente. Owen Wijndal could start at left-back with Calvin Bassey starting in a central role while Steven Bergwijn and Mohammed Kudus are in contention to feature in the squad after spells in the treatment room.
