Eredivisie 2024/25 preview: FC Twente

Article image:Eredivisie 2024/25 preview: FC Twente

Twente are gearing up for another exciting Eredivisie campaign, aiming to build on their impressive performances from last season. The Enschede-based club will be looking to secure a top-four finish once again, having achieved that target three times in the last five seasons. With Joseph Oosting at the helm, Twente’s squad has a strong blend of experience and youthful talent who certainly have the ability to help the club challenge for top spot.

De Grolsch Veste, will once again be a fortress where the team will aim to capitalise on their remarkable home record. Last term they won 14 of their 17 home games, only champions PSV recorded a better home record. Twente have only won the title once in their history (09/10), but all the signs suggest they’re incredibly close to claiming silverware again. They’ve lost some crucial players recently, Robin Pröpper, Gijs Smal and Manfred Ugalde to name a few, but they always seem to find the perfect replacements. They’ve done that again this summer and have already made a fast start to the new season.

Last season’s position: 3rd

Transfers In: Sam Lammers (Rangers), Sayfallah Ltaief (FC Basel), Bas Kuipers (Go Ahead Eagles), Alec Van Hoorenbeeck (KV Mechelen)

Transfers Out: Robin Pröpper (Rangers), Gijs Smal (Feyenoord), Joshua Brenet (Released), Naci Ünüvar (End of loan), Myron Boadu (End of loan)

Overview: Twente have experienced a super summer on and off the pitch after going through an unbeaten pre-season and making some solid signings. Dutch striker Sam Lammers will lead the line this season following his transfer from Rangers. The 27-year-old scored 11 goals in 20 games whilst on at FC Utrecht last term and got off the mark with an early goal in his Twente debut on Saturday.

Joseph Oosting has also added another exciting winger to his ranks, bringing Sayfallah Ltaief to the club from FC Basel. The 24-year-old had a super campaign on loan with Swiss side FC Winterthur last season, and he’s already started to replicate that in the Eredivisie. During Twente’s first game of the season on Saturday, against NEC Nijmegen, Ltaief provided the assist for Sam Lammers’ opener as Twente claimed a 2-1 win.

Clearly it’s an exciting time to be an FC Twente supporter. Some super signings and attractive, attacking football gives those in Enschede plenty to look forward to, and with a win under their belt already they’ve got loads of momentum. Sparta Rotterdam, Heerenveen, Utrecht, Zwolle and Almere are their next five Eredivisie opponents. Amongst that they’ve got a Champions League qualification clash with RB Salzburg to play in which they’re currently 2-1 down on aggregate.
