Watford manager Xisco named an unchanged side from the Norwich win. Veteran goalkeeper Ben Foster started his second game in a row. Dennis, Cleverley and Sarr played as attacking players behind Josh King.

Watford had more possession of the ball in the match. Newcastle dominated the possession for the first 30 minutes. Watford players turned the momentum in their favour in the next 30 minutes. The last two phases were dominated by both teams. The Hornets created more positional attacks than their opponents.

Newcastle attempted 19 shots towards the opposition goal and six shots were on target. Watford was just behind their opponents with 15 attempts and five shots on target. Substitute Jacob Murphy had the highest xG rate towards the end of the match. Sean Longstaff was the most impressive player going forward and the midfielder attempted four shots towards the opposition goal.

The expected goal rate for Watford was 0.77 and the team attempted 33% of their shots from inside the opposition box. Most of the attempts by the Hornets were from long range and Darlow saved four shots in the process.

Newcastle scored from a long effort by Sean Longstaff. The Magpies forced Ben Foster to make five saves in the match. Their xG rate was 2.15 and a lot more than their opponents.

Newcastle players showed some early domination and the Magpies attempted six shots within the first 20-22 minutes. Watford on the other hand started to gain momentum towards the end of the first half. Both the teams were playing attacking football in the second half.

Ozan Tufan looked impressive in his first appearance for the Hornets. The Turkish international created some threat with his passing in the match. The creative zones were on the wide sides and Danny Rose crosses created the highest threat in the match.

Joshua King was the only Watford player who created some threat with his dribbles. His teammates possessed less threat in the match.

Matt Ritchie was the most threatening player for Newcastle. The left-sided player had the highest xT from passes in the whole match.

Saint-Maximin attempted 16 dribbles in the match and carried the highest threat with dribbles. He was supported by Willock who also attempted seven dribbles.

The highest number of defensive duels were contested in the middle of the park. Danny Rose and Sissoko contested eight duels each. Rose won three duels and Sissoko won only one duel.

The aerial duels were mostly contested in the middle of the field. Joshua King and Ekong won three duels each.

Joelinton was good in the air and won more than 50% of his aerial duels. Clark also defended well and the centre-back won four out of his seven duels.

Joelinton once again contested the highest number of duels. The Frenchman contested nine duels and won four, lost four and three were 50-50.

Newcastle United created more chances than the opposition and their xG rate was better than Watford. But the team was not clinical with their finish. Watford also created enough pressure to take one point from the game.
