Enzo Maresca has revealed that Chelsea aren’t thinking about the upcoming January transfer window, with their focus solely on the upcoming games.

The Blues have made a strong start to the season and find themselves second in the table having lost just two of their 15 matches so far.

Maresca is currently preparing his players for an eight hour trip to Kazakhstan to take on Astana in the Conference League, with temperatures set to be well below freezing.

Maresca: Chelsea not thinking about the January window

Given Chelsea’s strong start to the season talk has surfaced about the title as well as whether the Blues could add to their squad in January.

Fabrizio Romano revealed last month Chelsea were actively monitoring the centre back market, with Benfica’s Tomas Araujo a player they like.

It’s unclear whether the Blues will move for a centre back in January or wait until the summer and any move would likely depend on Axel Disasi leaving the club.

There’s far more likely to be outgoings next month and Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei have both been linked with moves to Serie A.

Maresca was asked about the January window ahead of the trip to Kazakhstan and revealed the club weren’t even thinking about it.

“No, we are not thinking at all about the January transfer window,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“We still have many games before that. We still have many games before January and the focus is on the amount of games before that.”

Defence is certainly the area that needs strengthening and is arguably the weakest part of the team at this moment in time.

However, the Blues haven’t been anywhere near as bad defensively as what’s been made out and the club currently have the joint third best defensive record in the league with 18 goals conceded in 15 games.
