Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on whether Chelsea will sign a new centre back or not this summer.

Of course all the talk has been around Levi Colwill getting injured and now likely to be missing for the most part of the season in what has been awful news coming out of Stamford Bridge last week.

Manager Enzo Maresca has already said he now sees it as a priority to sign a new centre back to replace the injured Colwill, and you’d imagine that he will get his wish.

But so far it has remained unclear as to whether Chelsea will actually be going into the market for the new centre back, and you’d imagine that they would still need to sell some more players for this to happen.

They had a surge in player sales last week, but they are going to need to have another surge this week if they want to get some more new signings in.

Fabrizio Romano was speaking on his latest Podcast episode this weekend and his comments on Chelsea signing a new centre back have been relayed on X.

He says:

“Chelsea could sign a defender in case of good opportunity on the market. We have to keep an eye on it with Enzo Maresca pushing.”

It rests on sales

I’m adamant that they will sign another new centre back but it will rest on sales now and with time running out in the window, it might all end up just being too much to do at these late stages.

Chelsea certainly need to add another centre back in my opinion, and I’d sell Benoit Badiashile to do so if it was down to me.
