Enzo Maresca faces perhaps the toughest test of his fledgling Chelsea career to date against Liverpool on Sunday and he recently shared some tactical insight on how the Blues will approach the game.

Chelsea currently sit fourth with 14 points from a possible 21 and are unbeaten since the opening day of the season, whilst Liverpool are the early leaders under Arne Slot.

Maresca was a surprise appointment and he recently revealed why he had no doubts about taking the Chelsea job in the summer.

The Blues have certainly taken a gamble on the 44-year-old, but Maresca has taken to the task well and was named Premier League Manager of the Month for September.

Club legend Gianfranco Zola recently said he was impressed with the Italian but warned he faces a tough task this season.

Chelsea’s young team face their biggest test against Liverpool this weekend and the Blues are winless against the Reds in their last nine meetings and haven’t won at Anfield since 2021.

Maresca will need the likes of Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson to step up and speaking ahead of the game he offered some insight into how the Blues might approach the game.

“Absolutely. As you said it’s a nice environment. Anfield is fantastic, but we’re going to try and go there, play our football and try to get points,” he told the Stadium Astro YouTube channel.

“We try always. As I said sometimes we plan the game but also the other team plan the game, so sometimes you struggle a little bit more, sometimes not. But in the end it’s important, the intention of the team has to be the same.”

Chelsea have been very good going forward this season and created a lot of chances and you would expect them to approach this game in the same way.

There’s always a danger at Anfield that teams retreat into their shell, but this young Chelsea side seems fearless and Maresca seems like the type of manager who wouldn’t be afraid to take the game to Liverpool and stick to the principles that have served him well so far.
