Winning trophies is what Chelsea Football Club needs to do. But since the new owners arrived at the club, they have yet to win anything.

The last trophy win came in 2021 after The Blues won the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel and the former ownership, but the new owners are still waiting for their first trophy. And surely, they would take any trophy right not to get the ball moving.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea pick main candidate for new full back transfer pursuit!

The Carabao Cup, which is also known as the League Cup, represents a great opportunity for clubs to win a trophy. Chelsea had already got to the fourth round of the competition, putting them within reaching distance of having a shot of winning it.

In terms of all the cups competitions, this is one of the ‘easier’ ones, or should one of the cups you have a more realistic chance of winning.

This would have been the perfect chance for Enzo Maresca to lift a trophy on his first season as Chelsea head coach.

Maresca hangs head after missed opportunity

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side have knocked Chelsea out of the competition, which should leave them with major regrets of throwing away a realistic opportunity to win a trophy.

Imagine if Maresca wins a trophy on his first season here? He still has chances, of course, with the Europa Conference League representing another realistic opportunity.

After the defeat last night, Maresca was asked, was the Carabao Cup a missed opportunity?

He responded: “We said, all the competitions are important, for sure, but also now we have different competitions that are still there and we can be more focused on that. We are sad that we lost the game, for sure, because we said many times this is something we don’t like. Now, we have two games to prepare for the next game.”
