Enzo Maresca has revealed why Chelsea were so happy after their hard fought win against Brentford at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.

The Blues ground out a 2-1 win to make it five league wins in a row and seven in all competitions as they closed the gap on leaders Liverpool to just two points.

Marc Cucurella opened the scoring two minutes before half time with a brilliant diving header, his first Premier League goal for the club, whilst Nicolas Jackson added the second ten minutes from time with an excellent finish.

Chelsea had only beaten Brentford once since they got promoted to the Premier League, whilst the Bees had won their last three visits to Stamford Bridge.

It was great to get the three points, but it also feels like a huge phycological barrier was overcome after recording a first win at home against Thomas Frank’s side.

Brentford made Chelsea work hard for the three points and Bryan Mbeumo’s late goal set up a nervy finish, especially after seven minutes injury time were added on.

Maresca highlighted the goal conceded as another reason to why the Blues aren’t title contenders, whilst Cucurella’s lack of discipline saw him sent off after the full time whistle.

You could see how happy Maresca and the players were at the end of the game and the 44-year-old revealed why they were so happy.

“The reason we were so happy at the end was that it is not easy to win games in the Premier League,” he said as cited on X.com.

“When you win four or five in a row, seven in all competitions, it’s important.”

Maresca has done an outstanding job so far and where Chelsea are right now is way beyond expectations, but the big question will be whether they can maintain it for the course of the season.

Next up for the Blues is Shamrock Rovers in the Conference League on Thursday before a difficult trip to Everton on Sunday.
