Chelsea have taken a 1-0 lead in Sweden against domestic force Djugården as they look to march on toward a Europa Conference League finals appearance.
A 13th-minute goal from Jadon Sancho gifted the Blues a more-than-justified one-nil advantage in the opening exchanges at 3Arena, but it was Argentine World Cup winner Ezno Fernández who may be celebrating the loudest.
The former Benfica man has regularly come under scrutiny to some degree since arriving from the Portuguese giants, but this season, the 24-year-old has been a leading light in the centre of the park alongside Moisés Caicedo, including in an attacking sense.
With his assist on Sancho's opening strike, the Buenos Aires native now sits on 18 direct goal contributions across the 2024/25 campaign on all fronts; a new personal best.
As Maresca and company look to get back among the big honours this season and beyond, Fernández's contributions in all phases of play are sure to be key to their success.
