Enzo Fernandez was signed for record money and was expected to change this team’s fortunes right away, but inevitably it’s taken some time for him to get into gear.
He didn’t win any of his first few games as a Chelsea player, but finally now he’s won two on the spin, including a vital Champions League home game last night against Benfica.
He took the chance to praise his under pressure manager and the rest of the coaching staff for the way they had prepared the game, in quotes picked up by Football.London:
“We are going to be staying on this path and we hope things carry on improving. It was a great plan from our coaches for the game [against Dortmund]. We had trust that the team could do it. We had more people running in behind and many people working at the back. We just had to do our jobs and follow that game plan.”
The 343 system that Potter used at the weekend and last night proved effective in both games, and it also suits Thiago Silva, whenever he’s back. We can’t see Potter changing anything as he looks to keep up the momentum this weekend when we play Leicester, even though it does force us to leave out a midfielder or attacker compared to the 433.
