Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag and the agency which represents him, SEG, have been accused of blocking an Old Trafford move for Everton star Amadou Onana.

Onana is believed to be a player United are keen on as a potential replacement for the ageing and declining Casemiro.

The Everton star has impressed since he arrived in the Premier League from France. He’s a huge physical presence and at 6’5”, boasts incredible dominance and power in the middle of the park.

The Belgian is an aggressive ball-winner who is not shy of delving into tackles and duels.

His tenacity helps him win challenges and win back possession. Beyond his defensive prowess, he’s also technically gifted, advances the ball well and helps progress play.

These are all attributes that would render Onana an impeccable addition to the ranks at United. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Everton would be more inclined to sell the midfielder as opposed to parting ways with their defensive gem, Jarrad Branthwaite, who is also on United’s radar.

The Red Devils are not the only interested party in Onana. Arsenal and Bayern Munich are also known admirers of his and could swoop in for him when the summer transfer window commences.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri (via SportWitness), United are only likely to sign Onana if Ten Hag leaves the club.

The Dutchman is of course facing an uncertain future with the 20-time English champions as a result of their extremely underwhelming and disappointing season and there are suggestions he could be sacked as soon as after the FA Cup final this weekend.

According to Tavolieri, Ten Hag and his agency have enjoyed control over transfers at United since his appointment, which saw them block a move for Onana in the past year.

Tavolieri notes, “What has always prevented Manchester United from attracting Amadou Onana is the enormous mafia between the agent and the agency, in this case the management which represents Erik ten Hag.”

“This is the big problem today. This is what led to all the sporting and managerial choice of Manchester United. I wonder how we didn’t start with that one the show today, what contributed to having this absolutely catastrophic season.”

“It is the internal scrupulous and mafia problems which have completely spoiled the interests within the club. So today, why has a player like Amadou Onana not arrived at Manchester United, who have been interested in two transfer windows, it’s because of Erik ten Hag and his entourage. We can say it like that.”

“Somewhere the choices of Amadou Onana will be oriented on which club will offer him the clearest project and where he sees that it could progress with a clear structure. If Erik ten Hag leaves, then perhaps there is a possibility of seeing Amadou Onana at Manchester United next summer.”

This is not the first time Ten Hag and his agent have courted controversy due to their influence at United.

Last year, The Daily Mail revealed that club staff harboured concerns about the growing involvement of his agent and SEG founder Kees Vos in transfer activity.

It was relayed that SEG became the “go-to agency” in player negotiations and transfer at United.

Some of the deals SEG have worked on since Ten Hag assumed the United hot seat include representing Rasmus Hojlund during his switch from Atalanta, acting in negotiations over the loan signing of Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina and facilitating the selling of academy graduate Zidane Iqbal to FC Utrecht.

Even if INEOS were to decide to keep Ten Hag and give him another chance, they’re highly unlikely to let the 54-year-old and his representatives enjoy as much free reign as they did.
