According to The Mirror, Manchester United have been handed a major reality check in their pursuit of Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish.
This comes because of the player’s agent, Jonathan Barnett. He has gone on to reveal that the Red Devils are not ahead of the pack of teams pursuing Grealish.
“‘The truth is we don’t know (what will happen). There are many clubs (interested) and I wouldn’t put Manchester United at the top of that (list).”
The Villa ace has cemented himself as one of the best midfielders in the English top-flight. The Red Devils were keen on him last summer but failed to land him.
Not landing Grealish last summer might as well be seen as a missed opportunity. The Englishman has since developed into a better player and would surely cost more in today’s market.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to attract the top local talent to Old Trafford. However, despite United’s success this season, he may find it difficult to do so.
Having penned a five-year deal at Villa last season, Grealish’s position at the club is secure. It also gives them an advantage when it comes to negotiations.
Having barely staved off relegation last season, Villa could finish in the top half this time around. Grealish has led from the front in what has been a promising season for them.
The 25-year-old has 7 goals and 10 assists this season and has led from the front. He leads the club’s assist tally while also being their third highest scorer this season. (h/t BBC)
A proven candidate, adding Grealish to our ranks would have been an excellent move. However, it does not appear to be straightforward this time around.
Interestingly, Barnett also represents Saul Niguez and Eduardo Camavinga, two players also on United’s radar. He also represents Red Devils stars Luke Shaw and Dean Henderson.
