The Three Lions boss is expected to announce his team on November 10th, but he has some big decisions to make beforehand.

Players must be left out. Dreams must be broken. It’s part and parcel of being an England manager heading into a major tournament.

So, with the squad announcement on the near horizon, the media whirlwind has been gathering speed as the nation awaits their 26-man list of gladiators for Qatar.

And to add fuel to the already raging fire, former England boss, Sam Allardyce, has picked what his squad would be.

The vastly experienced duo appeared on the YouTube channel: Footy Accumulators.

On the channel, the pair took part in the very first episode of ‘No Tippy Tappy Football’ series, sponsored by William Hill

Tasked with picking their 26-man England squad, they decided to go through the candidates and rank them from most to least nailed on for the plane, should Southgate’s task have fallen to them.

We’ll run you through their selections below:

  • Jordan Pickford
  • Declan Rice
  • Harry Kane
  • Conor Coady
  • Phil Foden
  • Jude Bellingham
  • Harry Maguire
  • Raheem Sterling
  • Jack Grealish
  • Ben Chilwell
  • Luke Shaw
  • Jordan Henderson
  • Kyle Walker
  • Reece James
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold
  • Anthony Gordon
  • Ivan Toney
  • Mason Mount
  • Bukayo Saka
  • Nick Pope
  • Aaron Ramsdale
  • Eric Dier
  • Kieran Trippier
  • Conor Gallagher
  • Jarrod Bowen
  • Ben White

And there you have it, Sam Allardyce’s and Sammy Lee’s 26-man England squad ranked in order of priority.

Controversial points

It’s a controversial one, there can be absolutely no doubting that.

John Stones, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, James Maddison and Kalvin Phillips all miss out entirely!

In the case of Stones in particular, many expect the Man City star to start alongside Harry Maguire in Qatar, so the fact he doesn’t even make the squad is extreme.

They have also opted to include Conor Coady as high up as number four, meaning he would likely be the first defender on the team sheet for them.

Jordan Pickford is perceived to be the most nailed on player in their eyes, whilst Harry Kane is good enough only for the podium.

The inclusion of Mason Mount and Bukayo Saka at number 18 and 19 respectively is sure to raise a few eyebrows also.

The pair both have a strong chance of starting in the first match vs Iran come November 21st.
