On June 11, 2017, England’s U20s won the World Cup.

After going unbeaten in their group, The Young Lions beat Costa Rica, Mexico and Italy to make their way to the final two.

England faced Venezeula in the final, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring the only goal of the game as they were crowned champions.

Five years have now passed since their triumph, but how are the squad getting on? Find out below…

Woodman is still at Newcastle, although he is far down the pecking order. He spent the second half of the 2021/22 season at Bournemouth, where he failed to make a single appearance.

Henderson, capped once by England, only made three appearances for Man Utd in the 2021/22 season. A summer move could be on the cards.

GK: Luke Southwood

Southwood was Reading’s first-choice goalkeeper towards the start of the campaign but lost his place. He is now a Northern Ireland international.

DEF: Jonjoe Kenny

Kenny’s 16-year spell at Everton came to an end this summer as he was released by the club. He made 68 appearances for Everton.

DEF: Fikayo Tomori

Tomori didn’t quite make the grade at Chelsea but he is now smashing it in Italy with AC Milan. The Italian club paid £25m for his services and he’s been worth every penny. Tomori played a pivotal role as the club won Serie A in the 2021/22 season.

Connolly only made one appearance for Everton. He was sent out on loan eight times before joining Blackpool in 2021. He made 32 appearances for the Championship outfit in the 2021/22 campaign.

Clarke-Salter made just three appearances for Chelsea. He was recently released by the club after spending the 2021/22 season on loan at Coventry.

Konsa was playing League One football in 2017. After a short stint with Brentford, the Englishman made the move to Aston Villa in 2019. He has scored six times in 99 games for the Villans.

Fry has played 175 times for his boyhood club, scoring twice.

After failing to establish himself as a first-team regular at Spurs, Walker-Peters made the £12m move to Southampton in 2020. He’s played 72 times for the Saints, scoring three times.

MID: Lewis Cook

Cook was part of the Bournemouth side that won promotion back to the Premier League in 2021/22.

Maitland-Niles spent the second season on loan at AS Roma. He has played 132 times for the Gunners and could depart the club this summer.

Calvert-Lewin is one of the biggest success stories from the side. The striker, now 25, has scored 45 Premier League goals for Everton. He’s also scored four times in 11 appearances for his country.

After scoring just once in 27 games for Liverpool, Solanke made the £19m move to Bournemouth in 2019. He was on fire in the 2021/22 season as he scored 30 goals to fire his side back to the Premier League.

Lookman spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Leicester City, where he scored eight times in 42 games. He is now a Nigeria international and has played three times in 2022 for the Super Eagles.

After a brilliant 2020/21 campaign, where he scored 29 times for Blackburn, Armstrong made the £15m to Southampton. He didn’t have great success in his first season with the Saints, though, as he scored just two Premier League goals.
