Lee Carsley may have already ruled himself out of the running as England’s permanent manager but his impact is undeniable.

The former midfielder saw Jack Grealish hand his temporary charges an early first-half lead in Sunday’s Nations League encounter with Finland.

Angel Gomes teed up the Manchester City playmaker for a rolled finish with a defence-splitting pass in the 18th minute at Helsinki’s Olympiastadion.

Grealish now has four strikes in his senior Three Lions career with two arriving in three appearances under Carsley’s interim tutelage.

To put that into context, it took him 36 appearances to amass the same international haul under predecessor Gareth Southgate.

He might still not fancy it but it’s clear Carsley’s methods are having a desired effect on at least one player.
