Congratulations to City’s England quartet, who have been crowned winners of Euro 2025.
Alex Greenwood, Lauren Hemp, Jess Park and Khiara Keating were the members of Andrée Jeglertz’s squad who were selected by Sarina Wiegman for the prestigious tournament hosted in Switzerland.
After securing passage to the final by finishing second in Group D before beating Sweden and Italy in the knockout phase, England retained the trophy they won in 2022 by beating Spain 3-1 on penalties in the showpiece.
During the famous success at St Jakob-Park, Greenwood and Hemp started, meanwhile Park and Keating were unused substitutes.
After Alessia Russo cancelled out Mariona Caldentey's opener, the Lionesses prevailed in the shootout to ensure it would be a summer to savour for the Lionesses.
What’s more, it also means they are only the second nation in Women’s European Championship history to win the trophy in successive tournaments.
Germany were the first to do so in 1989 and 1991 before winning the Euros across five successive tournaments between 1995 and 2013.
After losing their opening assignment 2-1 to France in Group D, Wiegman’s side bounced back spectacularly to beat the Netherlands 4-0 and firmly put the fate of their knockout ambitions in their own hands.
And they secured their place in the quarter-finals with an emphatic 6-1 win over Wales with Hemp scoring her nation’s third of the fixture when she ghosted towards the back post and bravely headed home from an acute angle.
Following England’s breathless group stage quest, the drama continued to unfold in the quarter-finals and last four, starting with a dramatic win over Sweden to reach the semi-finals.
After finding themselves 2-0 down approaching the final 10 minutes in Zurich, quickfire goals from Lucy Bronze and Michelle Agyemang sent the game to extra-time before a penalty shootout would decide who secured passage into the next round.
It was there where England prevailed 3-2, despite the pendulum continuing to swing, after 14 total attempts from both teams.
That set-up a clash with Italy in the semi-final where the Lionesses once again snatched victory from the jaws of defeat when Agyemang equalised deep in second half stoppage time to cancel out Barbara Bonansea’s early effort.
With penalties looming, England were awarded a spot-kick in the 119th minute, and while Chloe Kelly saw her effort saved, she fired home the rebound to set up a final tie with Spain.
That led to Sunday’s showdown, where the Lionesses prevailed to win their second-ever European championship.
Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Alex, Lauren, Jess and Khiara as well as their England team-mates on their triumph at Euro 2025 and offer our commiserations to Leila Ouahabi’s Spain.
