Kortrijk have announced that England youth international Alex Mighten has had his loan deal cut short and will return to Nottingham Forest. The 21-year-old made only 12 appearances in total for the side, playing 240 minutes in the Belgian Pro League. He started twice and leaves the club without managing the score or provide an assist.
However, it is not really Mighten’s fault that he was unable to produce for a side that have struggled all season. Kortrijk sit rock bottom of the Pro League and are the lowest scorers with just 12 goals from 20 games, with 44 shipped at the other end. The side are now on to their third head coach of the season, with former Iceland women’s team boss Freyr Alexandersson in charge for the rest of the season. He will have to work miracles to keep the side up.
To add further problems, the side are also owned by Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan. The owner of the Welsh side has been trying to sell Kortrijk for over a year, meaning that there has been very little investment in the first team squad since the summer.
