England youth international forward Watson signs new deal with Sunderland | OneFootball

England youth international forward Katy Watson has signed a new contract with Barclays Women’s Championship leaders Sunderland.

The Lady Black Cats announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

It has been reported that Watson will remain on a hybrid arrangement until she completes her studies next summer and she will then become a professional player for Sunderland in 2024/2025.

Watson has come through the academy system at Sunderland. The teenager has gone on to make 34 appearances for the Wearside club in the Barclays Women’s Championship while she has scored four goals. Watson has made eight substitute appearances for Sunderland in the league this season as the club have risen to the summit.

The youngster has an exciting future ahead of her and Sunderland will be delighted to have Watson onboard for the longer term.

After signing her new deal, Watson said “I’m over the moon to sign my first professional contract with the Club and I can’t wait to continue my journey and my development here.”

Sunderland’s next fixture is arguably their biggest of the season so far. The Lady Black Cats travel to local rivals Durham for the A690 derby on Sunday 5 November 2023. Watson will be hoping to play her part for Sunderland on derby day.
