Kyle Walker will be remembered for many achievements throughout his career when he hangs up his boots, but his short spell with Queens Park Rangers may be a niche shout outside of west London.

The 33-year-old has won every major trophy possible in England since he joined up with the Manchester City squad in 2017 in a £45 million move from Tottenham Hotspur.

However, before he became a leading figure for those Premier League sides, he was sent out on a short-term loan to the Hoops in 2010 as a 20-year-old to gain valuable experience with the then Championship league leaders.

Walker became a key figure in his brief spell at Loftus Road, and will be fondly remembered by fans there, especially considering what he went on to achieve.

Having joined on an initial one-month deal to assist with his transition into senior football, the full-back made such a good impression that the agreement was swiftly extended to run until the January window.

In the first half of the 2010/11 season, Walker played every available minute of Championship football for QPR, starting with his debut against Ipswich Town and running right through until the game against Bristol City at the start of January, before being recalled by Spurs, a move that disappointed then Rangers manager Neil Warnock.

During his time at the club, which consisted of 20 league games, QPR lost just three times, and would go on to win the league that season.

Although it was disappointing for both QPR and Walker at the time, his parent club recognised the need to further his development as quickly as possible.

His time at QPR proved vital for his career progression

Having taken to the Championship so naturally in the first half of that season, Spurs recalled Walker and sent him back out on loan to Premier League side Aston Villa just days later.

It was likely his exploits for the Hoops that attracted the Midlands side to take the young prospect on loan, and he kicked on where he left off after switching to the higher division.

In the latter half of that campaign, Walker made 15 league starts for the Villans, scoring once and providing three assists, while also playing the full 90 minutes for the vast majority of games he played.

His time at Loftus Road had put him in the shop window, which had earned him the chance to prove himself as a Premier League player at Villa Park.

QPR kicked off an incredible career

Walker never looked back following that season that began with QPR, as he became a mainstay in the Spurs first-team from the 2011/12 season.

A lengthy career with the Lilywhites catapulted him to the big-money move to Man City in 2017, where he would go on to play pivotal roles in multiple Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup wins, not to mention a Champions League and dozens of England caps.

He is one of the most decorated players currently operating in English football and, as such, is one of the most successful to ever turn out for QPR.

Hoops fans will have fond memories of Walker as a player who played a key role in their Championship victory while the defender will hold the club in similarly high regard for playing such a vital part in kicking off his early career.

Despite that, on account of his vast achievements, it may be a story retold in West London more than anywhere else in the world when he calls time on his career.
