Gareth Southgate will name his squad for the upcoming friendly against Wales on October 8, before two Nations League matches against Belgium (October 11) and Denmark (October 14).

According to Sky Sports, England pair Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood are expected to be dropped from the England squad, when it is announced on Thursday.

There is some potential good news for Harry Maguire though, with the centre-back set to be welcomed back into the fold.

Manchester United’s Greenwood was caught up in controversy along with England teammate Foden when the pair earned their first senior call-ups.

After making their England debuts against Iceland three weeks ago they were sent home two days later after breaching coronavirus protocols by meeting up with two women inside the team hotel.

By not selecting them this time around, Southgate will be giving them both a slap on the wrist as well as warning the other players in the squad about how to behave when on international duty.

Greenwood will get the chance to do more training at Carrington with United while the other players are playing for their countries. It’s not a bad thing as far as United are concerned.
