Arsenal defender Leah Williamson is set for her long-awaited England return with the player having been named in the squad for next month’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 qualifying matches against Sweden and the Republic of Ireland.

The Football Association announced England head coach Sarina Wiegman’s 23-player squad via an official press release this morning.

Arsenal’s Williamson is the notable inclusion in the squad. She was initially set to return for the February camp but a niggling injury forced her to withdraw and wait a little longer to complete her international comeback.

In other squad news, Millie Turner has continued to impress Wiegman and has made the squad, although her Manchester United teammate Maya Le Tissier misses out. Chelsea’s Millie Bright is nearing fitness but the April international window comes too soon for her return.

After announcing her latest squad, England head coach Wiegman said “There’s no time to waste. February’s window showed who we are and where we want to go and we’ll look to continue that momentum from the minute we arrive at St George’s Park next week.

“We know it’s a challenging group, but it’s really exciting. These are all big games that will test us and these are the kind of fixtures we want to play in. Every opponent we face is a top nation and we know we have to perform at our best to achieve our goals. We’ll be ready for Sweden at Wembley.”

England face Sweden at Wembley Stadium in the opening match of their qualifying campaign on Friday 5 April 2024 before travelling to Dublin to face the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday 9 April 2024.
