Rachel Daly opened the scoring for the Lionesses in the first half before Chloe Kelly, Ella Toone and Jess Park added further goals to England’s tally in the second half as they completed a hugely impressive win.
England started the match brightly and Japanese goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita was tested early on as she stretched to gather the ball from an Toone shot. The Manchester United midfielder went close again nine minutes later when a cross was diverted into her path but she scuffed her effort wide.
At the other end, Yui Hasegawa tested Mary Earps from distance before England threatened the Japanese goal again as Alessia Russo saw her header stump the post.
England continued to dominate the contest and Beth Mead was denied the opener by a crucial Yamashita save before the Lionesses finally broke the deadlock through Daly who neatly slotted the ball beyond the keeper and into the net.
Sarina Wiegman’s side doubled their lead early in the second half when Mead’s over-hit cross fell to Kelly who smashed the ball home.
Toone then added a third goal after being played in by substitute Ebony Salmon before Park rounded-off a fine victory with a debut goal from close range in second half injury time.
England return to action on Tuesday evening when they face Norway in their second international friendly at the Pinatar Arena.
