Interim England manager Lee Carsley says Harry Kane will not start in their Nations League clash with Greece on Thursday night after failing to fully recover from the injury he suffered at the weekend.

The Three Lions captain sustained a blow to his leg in Bayern Munich's Bundesliga clash with Eintracht Frankfurt and has been training on his own while on international duty so far.

England have another match against Finland on Sunday and Carsley has revealed his skipper won't start in the first fixture, but didn't rule the former Tottenham Hotspur star completely out of contention.

Speaking to the press before the game, he said: "Harry's nursing an injury, a small knock. Something that we won't take a chance with.

"We're not ruling him out yet of the game, but he won't start the game.

"Hopefully he'll be in contention then for Sunday [against Finland] but, again, time will tell. It's not something I think we should be rushing."

Kane won his 100th England cap last month and celebrated the occasion with two goals against Finland, helping his side to their second win under temporary boss Carsley having previously beaten the Republic of Ireland.

The former Everton midfielder also admitted Manchester City winger Jack Grealish may not be fit enough to feature having sat out of training earlier in the week.

He added: "We'll assess Jack later. Jack just picked up a slight knock yesterday but our attitude would be we wouldn't gamble with any of the players.

"I think it's important that we put them first rather than ourselves."

Grealish has been included in both of Carsley's squads so far after controversially missing out on a place in Gareth Southgate's selection for Euro 2024, a decision he revealed he disagreed with and was left devastated by.

In Kane's absence, England will be skippered by City defender John Stones.
