We have chosen 10 players, who are household names in their own right — that played for clubs you may not automatically associate with them.

How many of these players do you remember representing the clubs below?

Regarded as one of the best defenders in the world, it’s no surprise Bronze has secured big moves to clubs like Manchester City, Lyon, and now Barcelona.

However, her moves in recent years make it easy to forget the right-back once sported the royal blue of Everton early in her career.

Bronze joined the Toffees in 2010 from Sunderland before signing for their Merseyside rivals Liverpool in 2012.

Man City have signed some incredible players over the years but do you remember this Swedish superstar pulling on the famous sky blue and white?

Asllani’s career has taken her all over the world — the US, France, Spain, and now Italy — and she made sure to also tick England off the list when she signed for City in 2016.

The midfielder spent just one season in Manchester but helped the team win the WSL title. One season in England, one league title — what a return rate.

England may have slipped down the pecking order at Chelsea but she is still regarded as one of their best players, having won the WSL Player of the Year award with them in 2020.

But before she exploded into form with the Blues, the striker spent a season on loan with Liverpool in 2017.

England bagged an impressive ten goals for the Reds before moving back to London and continuing her influential performances.

Jackie Groenen at Chelsea

Speaking of Chelsea… They are another club who have unbelievable power to pull in some of the biggest names on the planet.

Their rosters have been so rich with talent over the years, it’s easy to forget who has been a part of the team.

Groenen, who recently signed for PSG, enjoyed a stint with Chelsea from 2014 to 2015. The Netherlands international made her debut in English football in a blue shirt before many watched her become a star at Manchester United.

Mary Earps at Reading

England’s number one goalkeeper will be best known to Euro 2022 fans as a Manchester United player. However, Earps has represented a number of clubs during her career.

Before joining Wolfsburg in 2018, the shot-stopper enjoyed a two-year spell at Reading, where she played alongside the likes of Northern Ireland’s Rachel Furness.

Asisat Oshoala at Liverpool

Liverpool have boasted some huge names over the years — so many that it’s often hard to remember them all.

Oshoala, the most decorated African female footballer of all time, made her first move to England after signing for the Reds in 2015.

The forward spent a year on Merseyside before moving to Arsenal, where she won the FA Cup, before eventually signing for Barcelona.

Steph Houghton at Arsenal

For fans who have followed the women’s game for some time, this is not so much a surprise but more of an “oh, remember that!” moment.

It’s hard to imagine Man City captain Houghton in anything but sky blue, but she enjoyed a very successful stint with Arsenal.

After signing in 2010, the defender won two WSL titles, two FA Cups and three League Cups with the Gunners — playing alongside the likes of Alex Scott, Kelly Smith and Rachel Yankey.

Caroline Weir at Arsenal

After winning four trophies with Man City and recently securing a move to Real Madrid, it’s hard to imagine Weir at other clubs.

But the Scottish superstar spent two years with Arsenal after moving to England from her homeland in 2013.

She won the FA Cup with the Gunners and also spent time at Liverpool, where she was named the club’s Player of the Year in 2016.

White recently retired from football after an astonishing career for both club and country.

In her final years on the pitch, White was best recognised for representing Birmingham and then Man City. She is even well-known for winning seven trophies during a three-year stint with Arsenal.

However, England Women’s all-time top scorer also represented Chelsea. She made her senior debut with the Blues in 2005 and spent three years with the club.

Carli Lloyd at Man City

Many USA internationals have journeyed across the pond to try their hand in the WSL — the most notable being the likes of Tobin Heath, Christen Press and Alex Morgan.

Sam Mewis and Rose Lavelle both signed for Man City, but Carli Lloyd was there before her compatriots.

After 18 years with Australian and North American outfits, the forward signed for the Citizens on loan in 2017.

Lloyd spent just one season in England but managed to notch her first and only domestic trophy by winning the FA Cup.
