England have ended their FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 qualifying campaign with a 10-0 victory over Luxembourg at the bet365 Stadium in Stoke-on-Trent this evening.

The Lionesses went into this evening’s fixture already assured of their place at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 but they didn’t hold back against one of the group minnows.

It took England just 12 minutes to break the deadlock. They were awarded a penalty kick when Alessia Russo was fouled in the box. Georgia Stanway stuck the ball away into the bottom corner of the Luxembourg net from 12 yards.

Russo got her name on the scoresheet when she headed home a Leah Williamson cross before Alex Greenwood headed against the post from a corner.

Stanway then netted her second goal of the game from a Beth Mead cut-back before Rachel Daly headed in from an Ella Toone cross for number four.

England would go into the break five goals to the good. Almost immediately after Daly’s header, Mead danced her way through the Luxembourg defence before slotting the ball past visiting keeper Lucie Schlime.

The Lionesses came out for the second half still hungry for goals and half-time substitute Beth England tapped in Mead’s low pass from close range to make it 6-0.

Nikita Parris was next to get on the scoresheet, drilling a low effort into the far corner before the same player won her side a penalty kick when she drew a foul in the box. Manchester United teammate Toone stepped up and successfully converted from 12 yards.

Parris should have doubled her personal tally late in the game but she somehow headed wide after Millie Bright’s initial shot had been saved. Despite that miss, the Lionesses still helped themselves to two more goals. First, Lauren Hemp pounced from close range as the hosts went 9-0 up before England’s injury time header made it a perfect 10.

The Lionesses return to action on Friday 7 October when they take on the United States at a sold-out Wembley Stadium.
